Two
Houses Into One
This
property was originally a semi detached cottage built in 1890,
with a further building added to the left side in about 1950
both buildings were attach but had separate stair cases.
The vendors purchased the property in 2000 as one address
and approached EK CONSTRUCTION for help to turn these two
buildings into one big family home, and as you can see by
the pictures, it was quite a task!
We started at the top by removing both existing roofs to construct
a new one.
We could then move to the inside. First, knocking down one
side of the cottage to turn both buildings into one. Now we
had our empty shell we were able to start constructing the
family home.
The entire upper floor had to be reconstructed to provide
four large bedrooms and a family bathroom complete with separate
shower. Also a new staircase had to be erected On the ground
floor we removed the existing bathroom to make the kitchen
into a stunning large galley kitchen. The lounge still had
the existing stairs from the cottage in it so these were removed
to really open up this living space. The other reception space
was turned into a separate, spacious dining room.
The house was then re wired throughout. All new windows were
fitted and a new heating system was installed. The whole of
the inside of the house was plastered and decorated with skirting
boards and internal doors fitted.
We thought we were finished but the vendors had one more plan
for their already stunning family home...an office!
They felt that their double garage, although very handy, was
rather a waste of space, so after obtaining planning permission
came to us with the plan to turn one side of the garage into
their office finishing the home off perfectly.
It started as quite a project and a fantastic challenge! But
as you can now see it was definitely worth it...
The vendors are now the very proud owners of a beautiful four
bedroom family home.
